Magnolia Vintage Capelet

TRANSLATION AND STEP-BY-STEP TUTORIAL

Hi arachnids!

This week is the beginning of autumn and you can see the changing leaves and late sunsets. We say goodbye to this summer ’15 and to lift our spirits, I present you this capelet crochet pattern with autumn colors (yay!).

You’ll find the original pattern from Kathy North with the specifications of the yarn used by her (Classic Elite Yarns). I chose to make it with Drops’ Nepal, a warm mix of wool and alpaca, perfect for this fall time.

The capelet has an intermediate skill level because uses rare stitches like the crab stitch and the Catherine’s Wheel, but I think is really a low intermediate, that is, if you’re a beginner and want to challenge yourself, this pattern is perfect for you!

To help these beginner crocheters, I decided to do a step-by-step tutorial with the parts of the pattern I think could confuse the inexperienced. Also, we have a new playlist for our YouTube channel ―”Rare stitches”! This means I will try to upload details of rare stitches I use for some patterns so you can understand better. If you think you can handle this without help, please go directly to the pattern link so you can skip the photos.

I think the capelets are going to be my obsession this year and I have a couple more in my crochet list. Capelets are perfect for cooler days when you don’t want to be completely exposed, but… I have to admit I think the capelets would look cuter in little girls (*wink wink aunts and mothers*).

The pattern doesn’t mention blocking, but I love it so I blocked it anyway, especially to wash the extra dye (the orange skein bled a lot) and to adjust the Catherine’s Wheel stitches.

Without further ado, let’s go!
